FINANCE AND BANKING FACULTY HOLD MEETING WITH PROFESSOR JUNG HONG JOO – SUNGKYUNKWAN UNIVERSITY – REPUBLIC OF KOREA

On February 12, 2018, Faculty of Finance and Banking hold a meeting with Professor Jung Hong Joo, from Sungkyunkwan University – Republic of Korea. Throughout the meeting, Professor Jung Hong Joo were introduced to the Ton Duc Thang University and Faculty of Banking and Finance, as well as the achievements and development orientation of the school. Dean of Finance and Banking Faculty and Professor Jung Hong Joo proposed and sought opportunities for future cooperation in training and research between the two Universities.

Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) is a private research university with campuses in Seoul and Suwon. Globally, SKKU is ranked 108th by the QS worldwide university rankings. In the Times Higher Education 2018 world university ranking, SKKU is ranked 111th. In the QS Asia rankings in 2016, SKKU is ranked 19th. The high ranking is attributed to SKKU's international engagement including short-term study abroad programs and dual-degree programs, as well as its industry ties to Samsung and its graduate reputation as evidenced in the high employment rate of SKKU graduates. SKKU was ranked second after Seoul National University in the Joongang Daily university rankings of 2015. In the Financial Times, SKK GSB Global MBA has also been ranked as #59 worldwide, one of the top 11 in Asia, and #1 MBA in Korea.

FACULTY OF FINANCE AND BANKING’S ENGLISH CLUB ORGANIZED THE MEETING SECTION “STOCK MARKET & STOCK MARKET VOLATILITY”

The Faculty of Finance and Banking’s English Club (FNB English Club) has been active since year 2016 – 2017 throughout many projects. This time, the Club successfully launched another academic meeting regarding the topic “Stock market & Stock market volatility”. The meeting took place at Ton Duc Thang University’s Inspire Library in the morning of December 23, in the presence of Dr. Pham Nguyen Anh Huy – lecturer from Faculty of Finance and Banking and members of FNB Club.
The meeting started with the introduction of Dr Pham Nguyen Anh Huy about main subject: Stock. After defining ‘Stock’, Dr Pham Huy continued to mentioned important participants in the market from Publisher, Investor to Underwriter and the IPO.
In the next section, Dr Pham Huy and the students discussed “Stock market volatility” together. The students gave their opinions in “Factors that can affect the price of share” and explained reasons to back up their ideas. Afterward, Dr Pham Huy summed up all the correct factors and added other crucial elements to complete the list.
After discussing the theory, the students participated in a practice game assuming that they were investors in a simulated Stock market with different events that can affect and change the stock’s price. First of all everyone formed groups of 5 to 6 students and answered quizzes relating to the topic to get more capital. Each team was provided with an equal amount of money plus their bonuses from the quizzes and could decide on which companies they want to invest in. After each event, the price would volatile depending on factors that could affect them. The students had to practice their theory knowledge and decided to trade the shares that could lessen their profit.
The winning team was the team that earned the most money after 3 tranches and received award from the Organization board.
The meeting ended in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere. Through the practice game and discussions, the students were able to speak more confidently in English and got more comfortable with economic subjects.

FINANCE AND BANKING FACULTY HOLD MEETING WITH PROFESSORS FROM SOONGSIL UNIVERSITY - KOREA

On December 27, 2017, Faculty of Finance and Banking hold a meeting with Professors from Soongsil University - Korea, including Prof. Ahn Tae Ho Dean of Business School, Prof. Park Jung Woo – Deputy Dean of Business School, Prof. Gim Gwangyong - Director of International Education Services Center. Throughout the meeting, the professors were introduced to the Ton Duc Thang University and Faculty of Banking and Finance, as well as the achievements and development orientation of the school. Dean of Finance and Banking Faculty and Professors proposed and sought opportunities for cooperation in training and researching between the two faculties.

SEMINAR WITH DR STEPHEN RUSH, BOWLING GREEN STATE UNIVERSITY - USA

On December 20, 2017, the Faculty of Banking and Finance held a seminar with Dr. Stephen Rush, Bowling Green State University - USA. Dr. Stephen Rush is an assistant professor in finance at Bowling Green State University, CFA charter and has extensive research papers in the field of finance and investment.
During the seminar, Dr. Stephen Rush was introduced about Ton Duc Thang University, Faculty of Banking and Finance, as well as the achievements and development orientation of the University. Dr. Stephen Rush introduced to the faculty of Banking and Finance the new research topics that he is working on and also exhibited his will to cooperate with the Faculty. Finally, the Faculty of Banking and Finance and Dr. Stephen Rush agreed to expand cooperation in the field of research and teaching in the near future.

FACULTY OF FINANCE AND BANKING ORGANIZED SEMINAR WITH ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR CHIACHI TSAN - LUNGHWA UNIVERSITY, TAIWAN

On 22 November 2017, the Faculty of Finance and Banking welcomed and held a seminar with Associate Professor Chiachi Tsan - Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, Taiwan. At the seminar, Professor Chiachi Tsan presented and shared an advanced teaching methodology with the application of technology in teaching. Professor Chiachi Tsan also presented some research results that show the positive impact of new teaching methods on students’ learning attitudes and results.
Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, Taiwan, is one of the major and prestigious universities in Taiwan, providing programs majors in science and technology, information management science, business administration. Faculty of Finance and Banking, Ton Duc Thang University, has cooperated with Lunghwa University to successfully develop the 3 + 1 international training program and the one-semester student exchange program. Many students of the program have graduated and currently work in finance related position in commercial banks, insurance companies, and other institutions.
